Last Friday night, some youth and young adults slept outside at the Orgain's farm in support of homelessness awareness in Clarksville. It had been brought to our attention, during a tour, that the Salvation Army Shelter is still in need of lots of funds in order to finish in time! They would like to be done by January - the beginning of the cold months. Actually, it is already so cold outside and there is no shelter for homeless people in Clarksville to stay... so, we thought we would try to get members of our congregation to pledge their support. To date, we have received pledges for $3515 and they are still coming in! Everyone seems to realize how important this ministry really is in Clarksville.
If you participated in this event, please share some thoughts from your experience. What were you thinking when you crawled into your tent or cardboard box for the first time and tried to get warm enough to fall asleep? Did you feel like you really didn't have any where to go? What steps will you take in life to make sure you never have to sleep out in the cold permanently? How can we help the homeless population in Clarksville be a little more comfortable when we see them on the streets?
